Windows Live Messenger? Why all of a sudden has my display name changed?

I had put an emoticon either side of my name on there, which showed up on my screen as a picture, but now all i get on my screen is the keyboard symbol, not the picture. I have tried deleting it and re-entering it, but nothing changes. Power did go off 3 times last night, very briefly. Any ideas on how i can get it to show on my screen again??
