when i try and open it it says, the parameter is incorrect
what does that mean? how can i fix it?

Check your Live messenger shortcut file (the one you click) by rightclicking and selecting "Properties"
The Target shoud read
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" and nothing else.
If it still doesnt work just reinstall Live Messenger or reboot.
