Probably a bad modem. Also check the power cord and make sure it is plugged in completely. The wiggle the cord near the transformer and the plug to the modem. See if the power goes on and off. All the information needed to replace the power supply is on the transformer. Take it to Radio Shack or another store and they can give you a correct replacement.

personally, i think antivirus programs slow down computers. you can't really do anything to protect your pc from messeging programs. if anything happens, just do a system restore

Installing a skin with just a .dll file:

Don't let the .dll file put you off. A skin installer will do the exact same as these instructions do. Windows Live Messenger stores all the Messenger resources in msgsres.dll.

Close down Windows Live Messenger.

In that case in the window where your talking to the other contact, there should be an arrow (it should be where the display picture of the the other contact your talking to that is now missing.) click the arrow and it should fix.

Under your screen name, where it says "Type in a personal message", click the down-arrow at the right hand side. There should be an option that says "Turn on 'What I'm Listening To'". This has always worked for me, whether I'm using iTunes or Windows Media.

Error code 81000306 usually occurs when there is a problem with the .NET Messenger service. one or more of the servers providing it might be down or having problems, with as result that you can no longer sign in. This normally won't take longer then a few minutes/hours.

That used to happen to me. I uninstalled, and reinstalled. Everything was fine after that. :] If you don't want to do that, though, just try turning off your computer for a little while.

You can't remove them. They are part of the operating system itself. The only way you can remove them is to uninstall windows. Just ignore them, it's not like they take up too much space.

You should defrag your system (esp. on 2000 XP)

Go to Start %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accesories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; Disk Defragmenter

That should remove unnecessary breakdowns in XP 2000.

I also suggest installing IE7 Pro, an add-on that enhances IE7 with features like inline spell check, adBlocker, Tab History, and much more. It's free, and I've had no problems with it.
